Dmitry Sotnikov’s crew won the “Silk Way” rally for the fifth time. The best time in the truck category at the “Silk Way” rally-raid was shown by the crew of the Russian “KamAZ-master” team led by Dmitry Sotnikov, TASS reports. The participants finished the race on the night of Monday, July 15. The second place was taken by another representative of “KamAZ-master,” Eduard Nikolaev. The Belarusian MАЗ crew led by Sergey Vyazovich took the third place. The final stage ended in the Mongolian capital. On the special stage, over three hundred and twenty-three kilometers long, another crew of the “KamAZ-master” team led by Bogdan Karimov won. The second place was taken by the Belarusian crew of Sergey Vyazovich, and Sotnikov’s crew finished third. Dmitry Sotnikov became the winner of the “Silk Way” for the fifth time. He has twice won the “Dakar” rally. According to “Russian World,” the international “Silk Way” rally-raid started on July 5 in Tomsk. The competition was held for the fourteenth time. The racers covered 5243 kilometers, more than half of which were high-speed sections. This time, the route passed through five Russian regions and the territory of Mongolia, including the Gobi Desert. Experts consider this race one of the most challenging and exciting. The pilots faced taiga, mountains, permafrost, and desert. Over a hundred crews from thirteen countries lined up at the start. Most crews came from Russia, Belarus, China, Mongolia, and Turkmenistan, competing in the SUV and truck categories. The main rivals were the Belarusian “MAZ-SPORTauto” and the Russian “KamAZ-master.” Twelve crews on ATVs and nine on quads also participated in the race. Representatives of the “Grand-tour” and “Adventure Trophy” categories, where anyone without sports experience has a chance to prove themselves, took the start again. They also didn’t refuse the G-Moto Challenge category, where motorcyclists or quad riders compete without technical support.
