An auto rally dedicated to the 85th anniversary of the victory of Soviet-Mongolian forces on the Khalkhin-Gol River has started in Moscow at the monument to Marshal Georgy Zhukov. This was reported by the Head of Buryatia, Alexey Tsydenov. "The auto rally dedicated to the 85th anniversary of the victory on the Khalkhin-Gol River kicked off in Moscow at the monument to Georgy Konstantinovich Zhukov. Journalists, bloggers, and scientists from Mongolia and Buryatia are participating in the rally," he wrote on his Telegram channel. The rally participants will travel across Russia, visiting significant cities and landmarks throughout the country. The rally will conclude at the monument to Marshal Georgy Zhukov in Mongolia. The hostilities between the Soviet Union and Japan on the Khalkhin-Gol River began on May 11, 1939. Soviet and Mongolian troops under the command of Georgy Zhukov defeated the Japanese Kwantung Army units that had invaded the Mongolian People's Republic (MPR) and by the end of August, drove them out of Mongolia. On September 15, an agreement was signed between the Soviet Union, MPR, and Japan to cease the armed conflict. For Zhukov, this was his first experience leading a major battle. The commander was awarded Mongolian medals and was granted the title of Hero of the Mongolian People's Republic. The house where he lived in Ulan Bator is now home to the only foreign Zhukov museum in the world.
