Today, August 19, World Humanitarian Day is observed around the globe. “Humanitarian workers are messengers we send to demonstrate our solidarity with the disadvantaged. They embody the best in human nature. But their work is dangerous.” — Ban Ki-moon, 8th UN Secretary-General Every year, disasters cause immense suffering to millions of people. Usually, the victims are the most underprivileged, living in unfavorable and vulnerable conditions. Every day, overcoming dangers and hardships, humanitarian workers help millions of people in countries affected by war or natural disasters. Their work is a vivid illustration of the fact that aid to those in need must and can be provided regardless of religious, racial, or gender affiliation, as emphasized in the UN resolution. Experts believe that in recent decades, the humanitarian community's ability to respond quickly and effectively to various crises and disasters, whether caused by natural or human factors, has significantly increased, as well as its ability to anticipate them. This has happened largely due to the dedicated work of many thousands of people who have chosen to work in the field of humanitarian aid. The Russian Ministry of Emergency Situations (EMERCOM) and the UN have been cooperating in the field of emergency humanitarian response since 1993. According to EMERCOM of Russia (as of 2022), the agency has carried out more than 500 emergency humanitarian operations abroad during this time. Over 30 years, EMERCOM of Russia has provided humanitarian aid to more than 80 countries. There are many organizations in the world that provide assistance to those in need. One of them is the Russian Humanitarian Mission. Its members implement charitable medical and educational projects around the world. Some of them have been implemented in cooperation with Rossotrudnichestvo and Russian Houses.
