This occurred following an appeal regarding the results of the World Championship in Uzbekistan, as reported by Elena Iskhakova, Secretary General of the All-Russian Federation of Canoe and Kayak, in an interview with RIA Novosti.
According to her, the athlete will receive the medal in a ceremonial setting; the exact date is yet to be determined.
Recall that at the end of August, Petrov was stripped of first place in the final 500-meter race at the World Championship in Samarkand. His canoe crossed the finish line first but had capsized, causing Petrov to fall out. Initially, the protocol indicated that Petrov did not finish; later, the gold was returned to him. This decision was contested by four other countries, leaving the Russian athlete without the award once again.
In early October, the ICF Directorate upheld the Russian side's appeal and reinstated Petrov's medal.
