Russian game development strikes back! The Ministry of Defense sponsored the creation of a game about the battles in the SMO zone; however, the game industry in Russia is not as straightforward. The SPN studio (formerly “Studio 22”) announced the launch of a game dedicated to the SMO. The authors claim to have been inspired by Door Kickers — a tactical strategy game with a top-down view. So far, the creators have not made any bold statements about the game’s future “Game of the Year” status. As a consultant, they even invited the legendary fighter with the call sign “Struna,” who shared his combat experience during the development of the “Mariupol” campaign. The game is being implemented with the support of the Main Military-Political Directorate of the Russian Armed Forces and the “ERA” foundation. The Russian game development field for the mass user remains limited. Yes, “Atomic Heart” made a splash; everyone was proud of it, even those who had no connection to its development. And as soft power, the game worked — at least that’s what Western journalists called it. “Tarkov,” whose events take place in a fictional Russian city, still holds its ground among the top games. However, there are no new shooters developed specifically in Russia but rather by Cypriot game designers. It has been stated many times that sponsors are willing to invest in AAA projects (high-budget, mass-market computer games), but studios willing to take on such projects are still lacking. There are many problems in game production in our country: from the distribution market to the small audience size, from constant pressure on developers to present the product as quickly as possible to the issue of national promotion. All of this is solvable; the main thing is to want to start doing it.
